How cell phones changed todays society Essay Example for Free
How cell phones changed todays society Essay How cellphones effect people everyday lives today? Cellphones play a bid role in todayââ¬â¢s society as many would concur. From when someone wakes up in the morning they instantly checks their profile, messages, or missed calls. Cellphones make it easier to communicate with each other even if thereââ¬â¢s a lot of distance between them. They made it to where if someone in Georgia want to talk to someone in New York anytime, then they could without haven to drive or fly to the other destination to. In order to keep the cellphones in business and effective they made different companies, that advertise, sale, keep in order, and produce the product. So to keep the business around each company tries to make the best deals for single and family purposes. They also build more signal towers all around the world to produce more signal than another company, to promise better service. They advertise the company on TV by commercials, on the internet with web site, on the streets with flyer or poster. They also advertise by saying they got the best by comparing there produce or services to others. Other ways like most of todayââ¬â¢s phone are high quality with best games, internet, music, and communication. So when someone gets bored the first thing they do is pick up a phone. Most of some peopleââ¬â¢s day is spent on a cellphone. People now a days are on their phones extremely too much, missing the beauty of life. Not going out doing things hands on, they rather be sucked into cyber life or social media. Researchers found the radiofrequency field generated by your cell phone causes brain tissue to heat up. This proves your brain is absorbing radiation from your cell, study author David Gultekin, Ph.D., a researcher at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, tells MensHealth.com. Ten studies connect cell phone radiationà to diminished sperm count and sperm damage. Others raise health concerns such as altered brain metabolism, sleep disturbance and behavioral changes in children. Thats why I did research and found a case that can reduce radiation exposure. One of the greatest disadvantages of the cellular phone is the fact that we do not talk to strangers when traveling anymore. In the past, several people waiting for a bus would engage in a conversation while they were waiting. People who traveled the same routes every day might develop friendships along the way. This situation does not happen anymore. Today when people are waiting for a bus, they just pull out their cell phones and speak with old friends, missing out on the opportunity to make new ones. In large cities, many people do not know their neighbors, even though they may have lived in the same neighborhood for years. As a society, we are beginning to lose the face-to-face contact that was such an important part of our lives in the past. Cell phones are a great asset in aiding in our everyday lives. You should remember, however, to hang up every once in a while and pay attention to the world around you.

The Portrayal of War in On the Idle Hill and The Destruction of Sennach
The Portrayal of War in On the Idle Hill and The Destruction of Sennacherib The structure of these 2 poems are similar but comparisons can be made between "On the idle hill" and "The destruction of Sennacherib" Although the content is similar the title, tone, language, devices, structure and punctuation are very different. In the early 1800's when Byron wrote "The destruction of Sennacherib" a large war campaign was occurring; The Napoleonic Wars. The wars surrounding him would effect his view on war. In the late 1800's when Housman wrote "On the idle hill", no major battle was occurring. However, ironically within 20 years of this poem more "lads" were being sent to the slaughter in World War One. The titles of the two poems are very different. "On the idle hill" portrays a very passive image, whereas "Destruction of Sennacherib" is very active. Byron's poem is a stereotype of war. The title shows action and it brings a sense of all encompassing. Whereas "On the idle hill" shows laziness as "idle" personifies the hill making the start of the poem peaceful and natural. This image contradicts war, which is very ironic. The two poems by Byron and Housman portray war. "On the idle hill" is a very natural affair. "The Destruction of Sennacherib" is a very violent and graphic event. Both of the poems show the beginning and the end of the battle and misses out the actual war. This firstly leaves the battle to the readers imagination so it can be interpreted differently, and secondly it makes the reader concentrate of the consequences. Although Byron's poem doesn't show the battle it has a brutal and horrific image of the aftermath, "the foam of his gasping lay white on the turf." This makes the battle s... ...ay. "On the Idle hill" finishes with two war instruments calling back from the battle. This may be reflecting back to the initial dreamy state. When it says, 'woman bore me, I will rise' it can be read in many different ways. It can be read into as a warning that war may rise again because it is inevitable. Or it can alternatively be read as there being a female influence in nature that will rise up. Altogether it is a positive ending that shows Humanity versus evil. "The Destruction of Sennacherib" has a very religious ending. It ends with the all the soldiers dead. God killed the Assyrians because they killed the holy people. There is a strong reference to nature that may be a reference to God, 'Hath melted like snow'. Both of the poems are ended extremely differently, "On the idle hill" is optimistic and "Destruction of Sennacherib" is pessimistic.

Fences Play According to Aristotle Essay
Using Aristotleââ¬â¢s descriptions of Tragedy, I classify Fences by August Wilson as a tragic play. The elements of tragedy, Troy Maxson as a tragic hero, and tragic plot were evident throughout the play. Also, the feeling of catharsis at the end-which is proper of tragedy, was clearly identifiable. I. Fences fits into the tragic genre based on the points given by Aristotle. In Poetics, he defines tragedy as ââ¬Å"the imitation of an action that is serious and also as having magnitude, complete in itself.â⬠â⬠¢ Aristotleââ¬â¢s idea is that the plot has a beginning middle and end and all parts follow each other in concise fashion. o In the beginning, the hero is a garbage man, who previously was given a chance to participate in professional baseball, becomes the first black to drive a garbage truck, is loved by his wife, looked up to by his friend, Bono and receives demanded respect from his sons Lyons and Cory. o In the middle, the hero confesses to his wife that he is going to be a daddy to another womanââ¬â¢s child. He struggles with his son Cory and ultimately loses the love and respect of his family. He needs to ask Rose to help him raise his baby and be her mama. He also admits to the infant that he is scared. Act II Scene 3 p. 73 ââ¬Å"And right now your daddyââ¬â¢s scared cause we sitting out here and ainââ¬â¢t got no home.â⬠o In the end, the hero dies. By then a lonely man who is no longer respected by his family nor has the admiration of his friend. Troyââ¬â¢s believes fate is his downfall. He thinks the color of his skin is the decisive factor in the workplace, the playing field and the street. (Pereira 42) â⬠¢ A complex plot includes reversal and recognition. o Troy is happy and stress free when with Alberta. Even when he tells Rose, she continues to stay with him until later when she issues an ultimatum. Act II Scene 1 pg. 66 ââ¬Å"â⬠¦Iââ¬â¢m responsible for it. I locked myself into a pattern trying to take care of you all that I forgot about myself.â⬠His belief of providing for his family and his refusal to accept that other people had ideas and times were changing kept him stagnant in life. o Alberta then dies during childbirth. Troy sees how he has lost everything and challenges death to stay away until it is ready to take him. II. Using Aristotleââ¬â¢s description of a tragic hero in Poetics, Troy Maxson,à the main character in August Wilsonââ¬â¢s play, Fences, is an example of a tragic hero. â⬠¢Aristotle describes a tragic hero to be a ââ¬Å"man who is not eminently good and just, yet whose misfortune is brought about not by vice or depravity, but by some error or frailtyâ⬠. This means the hero need not be perfect nor a villain, but basically good and decent. His downfall usually results from a tragic flaw or error in judgment, not due to wickedness. â⬠¢ In Chapter 15 of Poetics, Aristotle says ââ¬Å"the character will be good if the purpose is goodâ⬠. o Troyââ¬â¢s intentions for his family are good. He provides a paycheck to his family, handing the money over to Rose each Friday, he wants Lyons to get his own job and support his wife and stay out of trouble, and he wants Cory to be educated and find a good job to support himself. o Act 1 Scene 3 pg. 39-40 ââ¬Å"â⬠¦Itâ â¬â¢s my job. Itââ¬â¢s my responsibility! You understand that? A man got to take care of his family. You live in my houseâ⬠¦sleep you behind on my bedclothesâ⬠¦fill you belly up with my foodâ⬠¦cause you my son. You my flesh and blood. Not cause I like you! Cause itââ¬â¢s my duty to take care of youâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ â⬠¢ Aristotle says ââ¬Å"the second thing to aim at is proprietyâ⬠. o In the book, August Wilson, The African-American Odyssey, Kim Pereira says ââ¬Å" Troy becomes a slave to bitterness which stunts the development of his full potential as a father, husband and friend. ââ¬Å" o Troyââ¬â¢s believes responsibility is the greatest virtue and his aim is to be a provider for his family. While Troyââ¬â¢s behavior is dominating and unaffectionate, his aim is to be the provider of his family and to make sure that they do not suffer the injustices he did. o ââ¬Å"If a hero is one who goes into a battle that he may or may not win, Troy Maxson possesses, in full measure, the â⬠¦warrior spiritâ⬠¦he wants complete satisfaction or nothing at all. The promise of change is empty; he cares only about change itselfâ⬠¦The so-called realities of the social world around him matter little, for he dances to an internal rhythm, answering a call for self-authentication that springs from a cultural, even cosmological, dimension.â⬠(Pereira 38) â⬠¢ Aristotle then says in his descriptions, ââ¬Å"Thirdly, character must be true to life: for this is a distinct thing from goodness and propriety, as here described.â⬠oTroy fits a character who would have lived in the 1950ââ¬â¢s, having experienced discrimination, an abusive father and a changing society towards African-Americans in that period. o Troy says in Act 1, Scene 3 pg. 37 ââ¬Å"â⬠¦The white man ainââ¬â¢t gonna letà you get nowhere with that football noway.â⬠Troyââ¬â¢s beliefs ran true to his experiences all through the play. â⬠¢ The last characteristic of a tragic hero is that he must be consistent. o Troy was consistent in his belief that the black man could not get ahead in America. o He behaved and learned from the examples given by his own father. o ââ¬Å"The events of almost a century had underscored the distinction between de jure and de facto. Legally, blacks had been free for ninety four years, but practically they had little or no access to any of the benefits that ordinary citizens take for granted-recourse to the law, equal employment opportunitites, education.â⬠(Pereira 36) III. Troyââ¬â¢s tragic flaw is in trying to protect his family and discover himself in the process. His frailty is colored by his experience with racism (especially in professional sports) and his inability to accept that times are changing. â⬠¢ Troy says Cory should make his own way in the world, but it is he who wonââ¬â¢t let him take a chance. â⬠¢Troyââ¬â¢s desire to prevent his son succumbing to the same outcome in sports ends with Troy trapping him into the same lifestyle by not allowing him to grow and refusing to believe that times have changed. o ââ¬Å"I donââ¬â¢t want him to be like me! I want him as far away from my life as he can getâ⬠¦..I decided seventeen years ago that boy wasnââ¬â¢t getting involved in no sports. Not after what they did to me in the sportsâ⬠(39 Fences). â⬠¢ Troyââ¬â¢s excuse for betraying Rose is because he has been standing on first base for ever. He doesnââ¬â¢t relate this to anyone else in his family who have stood right behind him. â⬠¢ ââ¬Å"Troy has inherited the legacy of fear of emotional commitmentâ⬠¦Troy has never learned to receive and give true loveâ⬠(Monaco) IV. ââ¬Å"Despite his flaws, or, perhaps, because of them, he taught his family how to ââ¬Å"take the straights with the crookedâ⬠; to recognize and play to their strengths; ââ¬Å"not to make the same mistakesâ⬠¦to take life as it comes along and keep putting one foot in front of the other.â⬠As all of them move toward their individual destinies, they have a surer sense of who they are and a greater instinct for survival because of Troy Maxson.â⬠(Monaco) â⬠¢ ââ¬Å"Like his father, Cory believes that denying his father is the ââ¬Å"way to get rid of that shadowâ⬠(Fences 89). o When Cory decides to go to the funeral, he has comeà to accept his fatherââ¬â¢s faults and looked to the man himself. Singing the song of Blue with Raynellâ⬠¦..Cory demonstrates that he can embrace the song of his father without becoming his father. (Monaco) â⬠¢ ââ¬Å"â⬠¦Wilson shows that it is only through the willingness to face and accept the forces of the past that the protagonists will be given hope, power, and ultimately, deliverance.â⬠(Monaco) â⬠¢ Troy is contained by death while the others are able to move on in their lives. o Cory has joined the Marines and is getting married, Rose is involved with church and raising Raynell, Gabriel is in the hospital, Bono is happily married to Lucille and Raynell has a family. Troy is contained by death. The play Fences definitely fits Aristotleââ¬â¢s description of Tragedy. Troy Maxson was a tragic hero, although he gave us reasons to believe he was not worthy of this title. In the end, his lessons and actions are what spurred his family into survival and healing and gave them a positive outlook and the ability to move forward in the changing future ahead of them.

Atkins Diet and Crohn Disease - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1634 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2019/02/15 Category Health Essay Level High school Tags: Diet Essay Did you like this example? Part 1, Criteria #1: Identification of Nutrients Atkins diets are categorized as a low carbohydrate diet and while restricting carbs the client would eat proteins and fats. This is usually used for weight loss but it is very important to make sure you are getting the correct amount of carbohydrates, protein and fats for optimal weight loss. The minimum amount of carbohydrates needed to give us sufficient energy and brainpower is 130g/day (Henry, 2016). Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Atkins Diet and Crohn Disease" essay for you Create order The average daily-recommended intake of protein is 0.8g/kg for healthy adults (Henry, 2016). Protein will provide us with tissue growth, for energy to keep our body going and transport nutrients and provide nitrogen homeostasis (Nutrients and Health benefits, 2018). Recommended fat intake would be approximately 20%-30% of total calories (Henry, 2016). If my patient continues this diet she will have a deficiency in carbohydrates and according to the RDA this will not allow her to have proper brainpower. When I plugged this diet into my fitness pal it showed that the patient only had 58 grams of carbohydrates leaving the patient with 92g of more carbohydrates she needed to consume. When plugging the foods consumed into my fitness pal it ended up being 908 calories, she could probably incorporate a Greek yogurt in her morning snack after she eats breakfast, this is high in calories and has probiotics in it that are great for digestive health. The Atkins diet does not focus on calorie counting or limiting your food you can eat as much as you want as long as you are cutting carbohydrates out of your diet. Its approach to carbs will burn off body fat stores, regulate your blood sugar while not having to restrict your food intake and this will help you reach your optimum health (Atkins Diet, 2017). Part 1, Criteria #2: Meeting RDA analysis My patient C.J. is a 30 year old female, Jewish, 5ââ¬â¢7, 135lbs. She is currently doing Atkins diet and has Crohnââ¬â¢s disease. Specifically to this patient it makes Atkins diet more challenging because she is Jewish she practices a Kosher diet. With that being said meats that are allowed are Sheep, cattle, goats, deer, chicken, geese, ducks and turkey (Jewish Dietary Laws, n.d). According to Kosher diet are unable to eat meat and diary are the same time and some opinions are different but they say you should wait two to six hours between meals before consuming diary or meat. When plugging C.Jââ¬â¢s diet into my fitness pal all of her meats and diary were from 2-6 hours apart. With the Atkins diet since you are restricting carbohydrates and your body is burning stored fat it is likely that my patient is losing weight. Since she has a normal BMI she does not seem to be malnourished but there is a risk that she can have nutritional deficiencies and a decreased intake of fiber. Education to my patient on making sure she is eating correct fiber with fiber supplements such as psyllium husk and eating more vegetables, this will allow her to have regular bowel movements especially with Crohnââ¬â¢s disease. As for sodium intake with Atkins diet, most of the sodium will come from how we season our meat. It is not usual to have hyponatremia but some affects of this would be confusion, lethargy and altered personality (Takahashi, 2017). There are no limits for protein and fat consumption on Atkins diet so based off my fitness pal she is in excess for the recommended dietary consumption. Fat is needed as a source of energy, it helps with building of cell walls, abs orption of vitamin A, D, E and K and its used as a way to protect organs (Healthy Fat Intake, 2014). If we consume too much trans fat this will increase our LDL cholesterol, which is known to not be very good for us because it can cause atherosclerosis and heart disease. This can be corrected by using olive oil instead of margarine and drinking coffee black instead of putting liquid flavored coffee cream and processed food. A general rule of thumb to improve healthier eating is shopping on the outsides of the grocery store, everything that must be refrigerated tends to be healthier. At most grocery stores, foods like chips, soda and cookies are usually stored in the middle of the grocery store. One fat serving is 45 calories and 5g of fat, which is important to know when reading labels (Healthy Fat Intake, 2014). Lastly, protein is good for tissue repair and the it is important for the function of the human body, it is one of the macronutrients and as I spoke about five in this par agraph but this one is the most important as far as Atkins diet. As I said above the RDA for protein is 0.8grams/kg so if my patient weighs 135lbs I will divide 2.2 to get 61kg and multiply by 0.8 that is 49 grams. On the Atkins diet my patient would be exceeding that by a lot, which can potentially be harmful and cause some things like constipation, kidney disease, kidney stones and increased risk of cancer but has only happened on occasions (Harvard Health Publishing, n.d.). Everything could be done successfully in moderation like once my patient has maintained her goal weight or if she is happy with where she is at maybe cutting down on all the protein could be a topic of conversation. Part 2 Criteria #1 Nutrition and Crohnââ¬â¢s Disease Crohn disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that can affect any part of the GI tract but it often times affects the colon and distal ileum. Inflammation starts and abscesses and they become tiny ulcers with mucosal edema this then has a cobblestoned appearance in the bowel (Walfish, 2017). If Crohns disease is located in the small intestine it can interfere with digestion and interfering with our digestion and absorption of food. Symptoms can include gas, bloating, diarrhea and pain due to undigested foods (Shah, 2016). Every patient is different with Crohns disease and depending on how certain foods can either upset the stomach or not would indicate how he or she can manage his or her daily intake. It is also important to know where exactly in the stomach the patients Crohns disease is located. An example of a specific macronutrient that we can manage would be fat, Stanford MPH, RD Neha Shah, said in research it is unnecessary to cut all fat out but instead get low fat foo d options like baked fish, grilled fish or broth based soups instead of cream based soups. Managing our portions can play a huge role when it comes to this disease because if educate the patient on eating slower to see how he/she feels and that will determine whether to continue to eat that type of food or not. Another example would be Lactose, which is sugar in milk, Crohns disease can interfere with the digestion process of lactose down to the enzymatic level. My patient is Jewish so she cannot eat any dairy with meats which works out in her benefit because dairy should be a small snack if anything because it may cause discomfort and pain for the patient. If Crohns is in the large intestine it can affect to absorption of water and electrolytes (Shah, 2016). This can impair electrolyte balance and it is important that they meet with a registered dietician so the deficiencies can be resolved or managed (Shah, 2016). The main goal is to manage symptoms of Crohns disease but to preven t nutritional deficiencies a consult with a registered dietician and Doctor would be imperative to see how Crohns is specifically affecting my patient. Part 2 C.Jââ¬â¢s Medications The medications that my patient is taking are 2grams of Sulfasalazine t.i.d and 1,000mg of Calcium. With Crohnââ¬â¢s disease absorption of vitamins and medications due to the inflammation and absorption can be impaired as well. Sulfasalazine is used to treat C.Js Crohnââ¬â¢s, it works as an ant inflammatory in the colon to reduce irritating symptoms (Vallerand, 2015). Sulfasalazine can decrease folic acid absorption and that can cause a folate deficiency. This drug can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort and upset stomach (Vallerand, 2015). This can become problematic if the patient is unable to keep down food they wont be consuming adequate calories per day but since my patients BMI is evidence that she is not malnourished this drug would not be of concern. The supplement my patient is taking is Calcium to prevent osteoporosis. It is common that patients with Crohnââ¬â¢s disease develop osteoporosis due to the body having to constantly form cells to create a health y bone (Ali, 2009). When this is not done it is an imbalance in bone formation and this leads to the development of osteoporosis. Some risk factors include age, malnutrition, corticosteroid use, deficiency and the body being in an inflamed state already (Ali, 2009). We must never give Calcium orally with bran, foods high in oxalates or whole grain cereals as it is a contraindication and a nutrient restriction while taking this medication (Vallerand, 2015).
